If you’re a hunter or watch outdoor television, chances are you have seen the annual Country Goes Huntin’ (CGH) event.
“It’s hard to believe this event is going into its 10th year,” said co-founder Rhett Akins, a CMA artist and songwriter. “When Sam (Klement) and I started this event, we had no idea it would catch on and continue to gain so much industry support from both the Nashville (country music) side and the hunting side. It has been a lot of fun and a great honor to have teamed up with so many country legends and experts from both arenas to help so many great causes and other non-profits through this event’s efforts.”
This year marks the 10th anniversary of what has come to be an annual tradition on the banks of the Chattahoochee River each year in Blakely, Ga. These two Valdosta, Ga. boys grew up hunting, fishing and listening to country music together. Little did they know that as they got older they would be co-founders of an event which would ultimately bring together in one camp many of today’s top country artists, hunting-industry personalities, as well as many top professional athletes and comedians.
“I guess if nothing else, it certainly makes the point that the hunting gene is in everyone,” said Sam Klement, co-founder of CGH. “Almost every year we get a new celebrity who gets involved.”
The country singers and outdoor personalities donate their time and efforts to raise money for worthy organizations. Receiving the donations this year will be the Sportsmen’s Legacy Foundation, whose mission statement is to provide a lasting, quality outdoor mentorship to children who have lost a parent or have a parent who has become physically challenged as a result of public service. The Ekerds Youth Alternative Program (EYA) will also receive funds.
“Even though it’s the 10th year, I don’t see how this year’s event can top last years,” said Dallas Davidson, a country singer and songwriter. “When decorated veteran and double amputee U.S. Army retired sergeant first class Dana Bowman parachuted into camp for the ‘Jump for the Heroes’ last year, I don’t think there was a dry eye there or if I have ever felt so proud.”
This year’s turkey-hunting event will take place March 27-30, and the CGH celebrity pairings will be hunting all over north Florida, southwest Georgia and southeast Alabama with the special CGH Camp Concert taking place on March 29.
If you would like to get involved or attend the concert, be sure and check the website <www.countrygoeshuntin.com> for details.
There will also be a similar texting initiative to last year’s with a giveaway of a Bad Boy Buggy and a Cat 5 cabin filled with lots of CGH and Budweiser branded products through many of the participating Anheuser-Busch distributors and retail locations.
CGH would also like to thank all the countless volunteers, landowners, celebrities and the following corporate sponsors who continue to make this event happen each year. Thanks to Realtree, Bad Boy Buggies, Lacrosse Footwear, Huntin is Good, Under Armour, Knight & Hale Game Calls, Primos, Hunters Specialities Inc., Budweiser, Cat 5 Cabins, Waffle House, Guthries Chicken, Nantze Springs bottled water, Grand Slam Mobile Marketing and Shann Mann Catering Company.
