VALDOSTA — Country music and hunting, nothing has deeper roots in the South. Well, two Valdosta natives have combined them into an annual charity event. Rhett Akins and Sam Klement, two friends since childhood, started County Goes Huntin, a charity event that brings some of the best of both worlds together for a big charity event.

11/1/2007 One of the most challenging things that I have to deal with is picking the right recipient for the MVP Award of Excellence. In every issue, life seems to present itself at the last hour and the right recipient shines like a star for me to see. This award is as big as any award, but this one is extra special because it is for the glory of the great outdoors. Ben Platner of Timberland Outfitters invited me to his deer camp and he mentioned that he had some big things going on. Ben mentioned the names of some country music people, but they didn’t register to me, heck I can’t even get my own kids names straight!

10/26/2007 While there are any number of music stars or professional athletes who are avid sportsmen, few (with the notable exception of Uncle Ted as in Ted Nugent) have done as much to promote the sport of hunting as country star Rhett Akins. Rhett, a former University of Georgia standout QB and Number 1 hit recording artist, scored a big personal hit in the hunting world recently when he arrowed this massive, typical 8-point in Illinois.

10/9/2007 Rhett and Sam were invited to hunt in Illinois by Ben Plattner owner of Timberland Outfitters. Ben invited CGH co-founders up to see what the great state of Illinois has to offer in hopes of bringing CGH-non profit up in the future for the first ever CGH "deerHunt". While there Sam/Rhett were busy meeting with key Ill. Game & Fish officials as well as media representaives from both radio/print. They obviously wanted to experience the bowhunting first hand as well. Rhett's Monster buck might be the biggest free roaming 8pt ever shot on camera with a bow and arrow.

4/19/2005 Brian and the crew recently packed up and headed south to Dothan, Alabama for the 4th Annual County Goes Huntin’ benefit concert. This charitable event benefits the Wheelin’ Sportsmen (NWTF) and was founded by country music artist Rhett Akins and hunting pro Sam Klement of Spectrum Outdoors. Some of Country’s biggest names showed up to take a “Tom” and lend their vocals for a worthy cause
